min misfit in ellipticity inversion

Post by geode »

Hi
some time in status window the value in Min Misfit is nan or inf or 0 and I dont't see for example tje groun profile.
why?
And what's the value of misfit weight

thank

Are you inverting the ellipticity alone? Or just the frequency of the peak?
If you are inverting the ellipticity how do you measure it? This is rather critical. Using classical H/V curves leads to false results in terms of velocity profiles. To invert the ellipticity, you must measure the true Rayleigh H/V not a mix of Love and body wave contributions.

Can you please specify the release number you are using.

Misfit weights are dedicated to joint inversions, for instance dispersion curve and resonance frequency. It is the way individual misfits are summed.

I don't understand your question: "I dont't see for example tje groun profile."

0, inf or nan in the minimum misfit is due to troubles in the forward computation. To understand and correct this bug, I need more information to reproduce it. For so doing, can you post your .dinver file? And tell me exactly what you are doing to get this erroneous misfit.

Thanks,

Marc

Thank's Marc
I'm using vers. 2.0.0 beta
I'm tryng to invert H/V curve (single station) where I know the stratigraphy or the Vs value.
My purpouse is try to use inversion of H/V to determinate velocity profile in areas where the stratigraphy is partial known, so I'm tryng to use your software.
Next days I'll post you the dinver file and the stratigraphy.
An other question..
I'm using geopsy for HV computation. There is a log file to load in spectral ratio tool box with standard parameters for HV computation?
I'm sorry , I don'know much about this matter and my english in no good

If you want to invert information contained in H/V curve the most robust approach is to invert the resonance frequency with some prior knowledge about the structure ( depths or Vs values). Release 2.0.0-beta is not working for the inversion of the H/V peak frequency (and ellipticity curve either). This release will soon be replaced by the current snapshot (means an instantaneous capture of the current development source tree). Meanwhile you can download the snapshot. I think it is sufficiently stable.

If you want to go back to default values of the H/V parameters, you can simply remove the current user settings. The method for removing these values is explained in this thread. If you want further details, post there.

You can find useful information about H/V processing and parameters in the documentation written by Sylvette Bonnefoy here. There is also plenty of information in SESAME deliverables available at the SESAME project web site

Note: forget about good or bad English, we use it as a common communication language, for very few of us it is our native language. Tip: in Firefox browser, if you install English dictionary, the spelling is automatically checked (I don't know if it is the case with others like internet explorer), this is handy to type in forums like this one.
