What is automatic gain control exactly doing?
This is a signal processing to continuously normalize the signal amplitude along time axis. The only parameter is a window length in seconds. Each individual sample of the signal is normalized by the average amplitude of neighboring samples (minus one window length and plus one window length).
This is a highly non linear processing used for viewing deep reflectors.
